StandardVision Artist Spotlight: An Abstract Exploration of Color and Texture with Artist Daniel Savage
On view through the end of June, StandardVision has curated a collaborative showcase of a new work from LA-based artist and animator Daniel Savage across some of StandardVision’s large-scale exterior displays in downtown Los Angeles.
An artist and animator with a background in percussion and design, Daniel’s work can best be described as visual rhythm. Through the use of simple forms and wit, he is able to explain complex ideas. Daniel’s work is inspired by printmaking techniques, creating a grid-like structure that brings consistency to organic forms, often depicting nature with an aesthetic that blurs the lines between digital and physical.
Much of Daniel Savage’s work is inspired by the natural world and its textures and landscapes. This piece expands upon his Mountains series, exploring the layers and vibrant colors of an abstract terrain, and drawing rhythm from the natural waveforms of mountains.
Daniel Savage is an artist and animator based in Los Angeles, and is the founder of Something Savage Studios. His work has been recognized by the ADC Young Guns, Webby Awards, and Society of Illustrators to name a few. He has taught at SVA and NYU, and created the film festival Yule Log 2.0. Previous clients include MTV, Hermès, Adult Swim, LACMA, The New Yorker, Facebook, Apple, Al Jazeera, New York Times, Spotify, Outdoor Voices, Vanity Fair, Dropbox, Google, Wired, Volvo, Samsung, among others.
Recently, Daniel Savage announced the upcoming release of a new book entitled Something Savage. A bold exploration of how machines can extend—rather than erase—the human hand in art, each page of the book is paired with augmented reality content, allowing readers to experience Savage’s work in all its technicolour splendour. The book is available for pre-order now.
