StandardVision Artist Showcase: Exploring Stillness, Memory, and Metaphor with Illustrator Mia Liu

For the month of August, StandardVision has curated a site-specific showcase of work by visual artist Mia Liu across a number of StandardVision’s large-scale exterior displays throughout Los Angeles.

A New York-based artist, Mia Liu’s work sits at the intersection of abstraction and narrative, often evoking a quiet sense of contemplation. Through nuanced forms and a refined visual language, she crafts imagery that lingers—offering a space for reflection and interpretation. Drawn to the unspoken and the in-between, Liu explores the emotional weight of stillness, memory, and metaphor. Her compositions invite the viewer to slow down and listen—to color, to shape, to silence.

Though her practice is rooted in illustration, Liu often moves fluidly across media, letting texture and material guide the rhythm of her work. She believes that the most powerful stories are not always loud—they are felt in small shifts, quiet tensions, and the spaces where words fall away.

Mia Liu is a New York-based illustrator and visual artist. She holds an MA in Illustration from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Beyond her artistic practice, Mia finds inspiration in hiking, traveling, and reading, all of which enrich her creative perspective and deepen her exploration of visual storytelling.

Catch selected works by Mia Liu on view at 3rd Street Crossing, 888 N Vermont, Courtyard Marriott LA Live, Kurve LA, and Melrose Crossing, through August 31st, and learn more about the artist on Instagram.
