SV Presents: Visible Night Life by Ouida Angelica Biddle & Miles Martinez  (on view through Oct 31)

A site-specific commissioned work as part of our SV Presents series. Inspired by Los Angeles’ unique patches of development, which abruptly give way to both wilderness and wildness, ‘Visible Night Life’ begins with an architectural visualization of the site and then uses VFX to break through immediate reality by showing our chaotic habitat giving way to flowing abstractions of nature and light.

SV Showcase: Three animated films guest curated by Think Tank Gallery (on view through Nov 6)

Look-See by Daniel Savage

A short film featuring a shapely character interacting with his environment. The project was conceived and executed while on a meditative “work vacation” to Lake Tahoe and Los Angeles.

Caffeine by Patricia Luna & Danae Diaz

An animated short made up of hand drawn images that are animated by traditional and computer media. The film is in part inspired by Brandt Brauer Frick’s soundtrack of mechanical rhythms as well as the works of George Orwell and Jacques Tati.

Weird Weather by Iain Acton

An animated music video for the New York based band Palaxy Tracks. The video has received various accolades on Vimeo as well as international recognition.

Artist Takeover: Lark Foord (on view through Oct 9)

Los Angeles photographer Lark Foord takes over the Marriott screen this week with excerpts from his ongoing series, Plain Sight, a seemingly simple study in found abstractions that gives way to an underlying theme of a pervasive otherness.

Disco Nap by Cheryl Humphreys (on view through Oct 14)

The first episode of our artist doc program: Day in the Life of the Artist. Disco Nap follows Cheryl Humphreys in her West LA studio as she gives us an insider look on how she makes her art. Humphreys’ work mimics the format of printing, but plays with light and shadow rather than color. Her subjects are simple and inspired by ordinary objects and pop culture.

The screenings can be seen and enjoyed from multiple angles anywhere within a three block radius of 901 W. Olympic Blvd. in downtown Los Angeles, and the full program could be leisurely experienced with food or drinks at local establishments like Triple 8 or the Yard House across the street.
