StandardVision’s new initiative invites select artists to takeover the SVLA1 screen on the Marriott Courtyard Hotel, located in Downtown Los Angeles. The program showcases these exceptional image makers to the public for one week via recurring 15-second spots. This week, the Artist Takeover series features Lark Foord. Foord is a part of this month’s theme titled “Los Angeles in Details," which documents the banal, mundane, and the bizarre details that make up the city while finding humor through the kooky, kitsch, and quintessential scenery that makes Los Angeles a unique playground of minute treasures.
Foord’s photography presents a view of Los Angeles through a microscope, examining the details that make up any urban environment. Foord’s portfolio consistently demonstrates strong composition, minimal subject matter, and very little organic material. Featuring sun-bleached architectural elements, sculptural refuse, and rusted fencing or street signs, these elegant photos were an obvious fit for this month’s series.
Based in Venice, California, Foord is a self-taught photographer. He began posting his photos online in 2014 and soon opportunities began to arise. Since then, he has shown in group exhibitions, been featured in independently published books, as well as online sources for artwork. His work follows a recent trend in photography, showcasing typical architecture, with a focus on details, color, and composition. His knack for capturing humor in these overlooked elements is what sets Foord aside. On what interests him most about photography: “Connecting with my environment. It’s the seeking and the seeing mainly, but it’s completely different when I walk around without a camera.”
