StandardVision teams up with 40 North Film Festival: an international, multi-night, event located in San Diego celebrating dance and film. The festival aims to provide a unique platform for dance film within the festival circuit and support the work of choreographers, dancers and filmmakers working in the genre. We will select three films from the entries to present in our upcoming SV Showcase in November.

StandardVision is also proud to present the Cinematography Award at 40 North for one winning film over the course of the two-weekend event. One of our many goals as an integrated media company is to create spaces for public art and to engage people with contemporary art and film. An objective of the SV Showcase is to set an example for others to follow, creating a more inclusive community for all to access and create artwork.

“Color of Reality” will be among the films featured at 40 North. The collaborative film by Alexa Meade, Jon Boogz, and Lil Buck was shown during the month of September on the SVLA1 screen in downtown Los Angeles. “Color of Reality” was shown as part of SV Presents: a program showcasing the work of up-and-coming and established directors, artists, and creators. The short film went viral thereafter and was featured on My Modern Met, Huffington Post, Nowness, and New York Times among many other major publications.

Prominent film, “MA” will receive a special screening on Thursday, October 20th at the Museum of Photographic Arts’ Joan and Irwin Jacobs Theater. Celia Rowlson-Hall, who professionally choreographed before turning to filmmaking, exemplifies the air of the festival. “MA” has won awards at both AFI Fest and the Venice Film Festival.

40 North takes place over two weekends, and at multiple locations in San Diego. The fest begins October 15th, 7:30pm with Official Selections I at the White Box Theater. “MA” will then premiere October 20th at the Museum of Photographic Arts’ Joan and Irwin Jacobs Theater, 7:30pm. Official Selections II follows on October 22nd, 7:30pm, at Art Produce.
