StandardVision Artist Spotlight: Exploring the Introspection and Subtlety of Shoulder Seasons with Photographer Alan Winslow
This month, StandardVision is showcasing 3 works from artist and educator Alan Winslow’s Edges of November series on the large-scale digital facade at the Courtyard Marriott LA Live.
A project spanning 14 years, Winslow explores the world of shoulder seasons, those nuanced transitional phases that mark the shift between peak moments—the gradual freeze of winter ice or the subtle change of light triggering migration. Winslow also observes the impact of climate change, extending the duration of these moments and amplifying their significance. Throughout his travels, he has perceived these junctures as inherently introspective and serene, offering a space for solitude and reflection.
An artist, creative technologist, and educator based in Brooklyn, New York, Alan Winslow holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University at Buffalo and a Master of Professional Studies from NYU's Interactive Telecommunications Program; his work delves into long-term, grant-funded interactive public art installations, primarily focusing on endangered species and conservation. His work has been exhibited in prestigious institutions such as the Smithsonian American Art Museum, The Triennial of Photography Hamburg, UPI Gallery, Photoville New York and earned recognition in publications including The New York Times, New York Magazines The Cut, Elle Magazine, and Pro Photographer among others.
Catch selections from Alan Winslow’s Edges of November series on view on the digital facade at the Courtyard Marriott DTLA through February 19th, and learn more about the artist on his website.
