StandardVision Artist Showcase: Exploring the Intersection of the African Diaspora and Technology with Vince Fraser

StandardVision continues its curated site-specific art program on the large-scale curved exterior display at 3rd Street Crossing with a month-long showcase of selected works from digital artist and Afro-futurist Vince Fraser on view through May 31st.

UK-based artist Vince Fraser creates surreal experiences through the clever use of new media and technology, including augmented and mixed reality, and more recently generative art. His work explores the Black experience, and refining what it is to be Black today in a futuristic context. Fraser’s powerful storytelling medium merges digital content with the physical realm, enabling him to deliver unique and out-of-this-world realities. Exploring the developing intersection of the African Diaspora culture with technology, Fraser combines a futuristic aesthetic with a cosmic and mythological or legendary perspective—where the alienated becomes extraterrestrial and the mystical coexists with the mundane.

For Fraser, his work acts as a tool of empowerment and a sense of escapism—a way of deconstructing his own identity while creating a method of self liberation and healing using the imagination to transcend circumstances. Remarks Fraser, “being Black [and] British, I want to be at the forefront of Black creatives worldwide pushing the boundaries of image-making and showing anything is possible regardless of background and ethnicity. Role models are very important and I'm hoping my work will resonate with the younger generation, inspiring them to explore different avenues."

Having worked in the creative industry as a professional digital illustrator for over twenty years, the progression to visual arts was a natural one for UK-based artist Vince Fraser. His work has continued to evolve, with Fraser identifying himself as a new breed of artist in the digital age. Bridging the gap between fantasy and reality, Fraser’s mission is to inspire, educate and empower positive images of the African Diaspora. Previous clients include Nike, Adobe, and MTV, and his work has gained the attention of various musicians including Erykah Badu , Usher and Outkast.

Catch Vince Fraser’s work on view at the large-scale facade on 3rd Street Crossing through May 31st, and learn more about his artwork on his Instagram.
