StandardVision Artist Spotlight: Celebrating the Convergence of Fantasy and Self-Exploration with Reine Paradis
On view through the end of April, StandardVision has curated a site-specific showcase of Reine Paradis’ latest photo series ECLIPSE across a number of StandardVision’s large-scale exterior displays throughout Los Angeles.
A French-born, Los Angeles-based multidisciplinary artist, Paradis constructs vivid, surreal worlds that blend photography, painting, sculpture, and film. Her meticulously staged self-portraits transport viewers into dreamlike landscapes, where reality and imagination blur. Each image begins as an imagined scenario, brought to life through intricate maquettes, extensive location scouting, and handcrafted props and costumes.
Paradis herself inhabits the scenes, embodying a bold, enigmatic character who navigates these strikingly stylized environments. Shielded by a signature blond wig, she steps into an alternate reality—one that is both deeply personal and universally evocative. In ECLIPSE, reflective and transparent materials create a luminous interplay of light and shadow, forming an ethereal barrier that simultaneously obscures and illuminates.
Paradis’ process is as rigorous as it is immersive, culminating in a meticulous post-production phase where she fine-tunes each hue and perspective to fit within her distinctive minimalist palette. The result is a meticulously constructed universe that challenges conventional notions of photography, inviting viewers into a space where fantasy and self-exploration converge. Her creative journey has also been documented in the award-winning feature film QUEEN OF PARADIS (Amazon Prime, 2020), which follows her cross-country quest to complete her previous series, MIDNIGHT. A second film, PARADISLAND, chronicling the making of ECLIPSE, is set for a worldwide theatrical and streaming release in late 2025.
Catch selected works from Reine Paradis’ ECLIPSE series on view at 3rd Street Crossing, 888 N Vermont, Courtyard Marriott LA Live, and Melrose Crossing, through April 30th, and learn more about the artist on Instagram.
