StandardVision Artist Showcase: The Coexisting Dualities of Daily Life with Artist Adrian Kay Wong
StandardVision has curated a site-specific artist showcase from artist Adrian Kay Wong on view across a number of StandardVision’s large-scale exterior displays throughout Los Angeles through April 30th.
A painter based in Los Angeles, Adrian Kay Wong depicts subtle narratives in the seemingly incidental moments of the everyday, interwoven with personal stories, memories, and cultural identity. Through attentive and carefully measured compositions, his paintings hold the often coexisting dualities understated in our daily experiences—notions such as connection and isolation, belonging and solitude, love and loss, in a still silence. Under the veneer of light casts, rich shadows, and vibrant yet nuanced palettes, Wong navigates the boundaries between abstraction and representation, artifice and reality, ethereal and visceral.
Wong’s Artist Showcase also coincides with the artist’s solo exhibition Upon a Golden Mountain, opening at Uprise Art NYC on April 4th, 2024. Upon a Golden Mountain serves as a captivating exploration of the blurred boundaries between artifice and reality, of symbolic abstraction and constructed representation. By depicting the periphery of everyday life—the overlooked and often missed—Wong encourages viewers to confront their own understanding of the world around them, and to embrace the inherent beauty of painting as a medium - a practice steeped in illusion yet grounded in the profound ability to transmit emotive images of lived experience.
Adrian Kay Wong lives and works in Los Angeles. Raised in the Bay Area, he graduated from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2013. Wong's work presents encapsulated moments that portray everyday settings, displaying a focused lens on the intimate and familiar and reserving care for personal narratives' sentimental, melancholic, and quieter experiences. By exacting a deliberate and measured flatness that levels the attention between the primary subject and contextual elements, Wong explores the subtleties of the ordinary, overlooked, and often missed.
