SV Showcase presents the work of emerging and established artists in a site-specific, month long, exhibition on the #SVLA1 screen in Downtown Los Angeles.
This month, StandardVision has curated a selection of artists and filmmakers who are utilizing drone videography to show broader and more nuanced perspectives of our changing cultural and physical geography. “New Topographies” brings together Renee Lusano, Mike Bishop, and Ian Wood in landscapes that range from downtown Los Angeles to the Swiss Alps to Australia and beyond.
The program will be on view from September 6 through November 8, Thursday – Sunday from 9pm-Midnight. StandardVision’s goal is to encourage audiences to participate with art in a new outdoor exhibition experience, and present curated contemporary art programming to the public.
A premiere for the showcase will take place on Wednesday, September 6 from 7pm – 11pm on the patio of the Yard House (800 W. Olympic Blvd, Los Angeles CA 90015), located across the street from the Courtyard Marriott screen.
Renee Lusano travels the world with her drone, Furby, taking selfies across the world in some of the most breathtaking locations on the planet. Each image or video is a celebration of place, taking in astonishing landscapes and stories of nebulous culture. In addition to her "dronies," Renee carries both digital and film cameras with her to document the subtle and overt narratives that she comes across in each place.
Mike Bishop is a multidisciplinary creative director, motion designer, and film maker. With a background in design and visual effects, his broad skill set and vast knowledge of film making techniques has lead him to create award winning projects for top brands and agencies. He has over fifteen years of professional experience developing video productions, advertising campaigns, and branding strategies. His record of international success has lead him to be one of the most sought after names in the action sports, lifestyle, and aerial cinematography industries. Michael’s short films continue to collect accolades through international films festivals, while his commercial work for some of the best brands and advertising agencies are seen by millions of viewers on a regular basis.
Ian Wood documents and creates cinematic narratives in the city of Los Angeles, causing us to rethink our relationship to the cities and towns in which we live. Using a series of drones, Ian and his company Silly Goose Media provides a unique perspective to connect subjects to the world around them, working with clients that include ABC, NBC, Warner Brothers, Sony, and Amazon Studios.
