The SV Showcase program presents the work of emerging and established artists in a site-specific, month-long exhibition on the #SVLA1 screen in Downtown Los Angeles. Curated by a different gallery or organization each month, the program will be on view through Dec 4, Thursday -Sunday from 9pm-midnight. StandardVision’s goal is to encourage audiences to participate with art in a new outdoor exhibition experience, and to expose the public to contemporary art.

For this collaboration, guest curator Shelley Holcomb of Curate LA selects three international video artists who are currently exhibiting at different institutions in Los Angeles. Julieta Gil’s piece will show every hour during the showcase, alongside tow other artists Sabrina Retté and Mickalene Thomas.

Julieta uses 3D modeling and animation, installation, sculpture, and print to explore themes of simulation, architecture and domesticity. Through analog and digital processes, she reprograms these elements, producing a new visual language that references familiar forms while also developing discourse around them.

Gil’s work was also featured at Human Resources, as a part of their video art festival titled Femmebit. Femmebit is a curated festival showcasing an all-female roster of LA-based creators cultivating the field of video art and new media. The festival took place Friday, the 18th through Sunday the 20th.

“Ornaments” by Julieta Gil juxtaposes a computer generated architectural space with the existing context of the LA skyline. The work is in part inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s appropriations of Mayan ornament as well as the contrasting minimalism of the California “Light and Space” movement.
