StandardVision Award Winner

John L directed by Nina McNeely and featuring Entity Contemporary Dance

A visually arresting piece, John L takes place in a far way land, somewhere between time and space. A group of cult followers have begun to question their leader and decide that only an absurdist and frenzied dance ritual can unveil the truth. Employing future-forward SFX techniques and choreographer Nina McNeely’s signature visceral, rebellious, and rowdy language of movement, John L is an immersive and cinematic delight.

StandardVision Award Honorable Mention

A Body Is directed by Jaime Dezcallar

A contemporary take on traditional Spanish Flamenco, A Body Is director Jaime Dezcallar took inspiration from the compositions of Spanish musician Antonio José Martínez Palacios. Palacios was incarcerated and executed without a trial at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War, and left behind him a vast, unfinished body of work. For the film, Marco Flores Dance Company and Dezcallar pay tribute to Palacios by revisiting and rethinking his music, stating “contemporary art is not better nor worse than any previous art. It’s the one we need.”

StandardVision Award Honorable Mention

Home by Project Home Art

A stunning dance film captured amidst the otherworldly and cinematic landscape of Iceland, Home explores the deeper concepts of community and family by asking its viewers to expand our definition of what it means to “be home.” Featuring richly textural aerial and wide shots of Iceland’s iconic naturescapes, Home is a gorgeous duet between the human form and our natural world.
