Andrew Studer is an outdoor videographer and time-lapse cinematographer based in Portland, OR. With a huge passion for the outdoors, Andrew is constantly seeking out adventure through unique and engaging ways to capture the earth’s natural wonders. For works like his film Space to Roam—currently on display at the immersive 8K lobby screen inside the US Bank Tower—Studer blends his outdoor cinematography background with otherworldly visual concepts to instill awe and wonder into our experience of vivid natural landscapes of the world.
Inspired by Studer's admiration for the incredibly dynamic and unique landscapes in the American Southwest, Space to Roam is a tribute to all the unique structures and patterns found throughout the region. The film features an astronaut in an orange space suit wandering through and around the vivid terrain, creating an otherworldly exploration of these vast public landscapes.
Studer’s goal was to produce something which directly conveys the experience of being in these almost alien locations. Fascinated with the concept of creating visuals on other planets, Studer’s Space to Roam highlights the unique landscapes that exist here on earth but appear to be from another planet, further honoring the natural wonders that are ever-present in our world. About the film, Studer shares “my intention with this project was not to necessarily focus on the astronaut, but rather to showcase the otherworldly scenery found in Southwestern America’s public lands in hopes of protecting them.”
