StandardVision Artist Showcase: Surrealist Mixed Media with Photographer Sanja Marušić

StandardVision continues its curated site-specific art program on the large-scale curved exterior display at 3rd Street Crossing with a month-long showcase of works by multimedia artist Sanja Marušić on view September 1st - 30th.

A Dutch-Croatian artist based in Amsterdam, Marušić travels the world to create otherworldly images situated on the axis of reality and vivid surrealism. Her practice emanates from photography and diverts to painting and collage techniques, resulting in mixed media art.

Through the medium of photography, Marušić captures miniature performances in which a human figure—usually Marušić herself in self-made costumes—uncannily moves through surreal landscapes featuring vibrant and cinematic compositions. The stories she creates often find their genesis in her personal life. Marušić manipulates her images so the dreamlike, yet alienating scenes—and the moments themselves—become more abstract, creating surreal new worlds as a kind of escapism for herself and the viewer.

Sanja Marušić (1991) is a Dutch-Croatian artist based in Amsterdam. She studied photography at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague (KABK), and in 2013 she graduated with an Honorable Mention. Catch her vivid mixed media photographs on the curved exterior facade at 3rd Street Crossing on view through September 30th, and see more of her work on her Instagram.
