StandardVision’s design proposal for Mutato Muzika, Devo Co-founder Mark Mothersbaugh's music production company headquarters located at 8760 Sunset Blvd., has been recognized by The City of West Hollywood as a concept award winner. The competition asked designers and property owners to engage with the Sunset Strip’s history of iconic signage, and work toward a more appealing pedestrian experience through innovations within architecture, art and advertising.

The Sunset Arts & Advertising Program encompasses 21 projects that include not only outdoor advertising platforms but also renovations to some existing buildings and development of new public spaces. The digital renovations will extend across a gamut of both new and historically recognized landmarks and developments. While the digital advertising program will generate revenue towards affordable housing and other public service benefits, each project will also contribute to a digital arts program coordinated by the City of West Hollywood.

The innovative concept for Mutato Muzika expandson the original iconoclastic building, rumored to be designed by renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer, transporting it from retro future to future contemporary. Designs for exterior electronic art installations have been part of Mutato Muzika’s plan for years, and this program presents an ideal opportunity to revive and expand those concepts beyond simple signage. StandardVision’s design envisions an interactive destination art space, serving not only as an iconic stop on the WeHo tour, but as a potential “digital venue” for visual and performing arts – dance, music, film, video – and an exploration of how we share artistic experience in a post-COVID world.
