Artist Takeover: Tekla Severin
https://vimeo.com/226473140This week’s StandardVision artist takeover on the SVLA1 screen at the Marriott Courtyard Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles features work by photographer Tekla Severin. Severin is the latest artist to be invited to take over the two week-long recurring 15-second spot to showcase their work to the public.A trained interior architect, Tekla Severin didn’t pick up a camera until she moved to Stockholm. Using color slide film and an old film camera, she began to look up, around, below, in her kitchen, on her stairs, and in her friends homes, developing her sharp, colorful, composed style. She found that, through the photographic lens, she paid more attention to her surrounding world; but, it wasn’t really until Instagram became a platform that Severin began shooting regularly and sharing her photos. When she did, they were a hit.Swedish by birth, Severin maintains and is constantly surrounded by traditional nordic aesthetics (think Scandinavian minimalist aesthetics). Her images are a sharp and playful contrast, photographing buildings, fruit, and housewares to create deconstructed motifs that are rife with balance, control, and playfulness simultaneously. You can see Severin's work through July 30th on the SVLA1 screen downtown located at 901 Olympic Blvd. You can also catch more of her work on her Instagram and website.
