Artist Spotlight: Josh S. Rose
This week’s StandardVision artist spotlight on the SVLA1 screen at the Marriott Courtyard Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles features work by Los Angeles based photographer Josh S. Rose. Rose is the latest of many artists to be invited to take over a two week-long recurring 15-second spot to showcase their work to the public.
Josh S. Rose got his degree in Fine Art, spent a few decades working as a creative director for big agencies and then turned to his passion for photography full-time, working directly for brands and celebrities to develop ongoing editorial and lifestyle content. Rose also continues his themes in fine art and his work has been published in magazines and shown in galleries around the world. Rose is a recent winner of the Top Honors/Outstanding Achievement in Fine Art Black and White Photography at The Spider Awards. Rose was recently Invited as a 2019 Artist-in-Residence at CalArts and is a Leica Akademie Instructor. Rose is currently represented by crowdMGMT.
Rose says about his photography, “I work in a style I describe as “Essentialism.” It’s different than Minimalism in that it does not seek solely to reduce, but rather to maximize the emotional impact of a scene by including everything it needs and nothing it doesn’t. My desires in art are influenced heavily by my earliest memories with the titans of art, like Michelangelo, Caravaggio and Rodin. Taken by their chiaroscuro renditions of human form and transcendence in both composition and light, I tend to lean toward the dramatic, the human and the depiction of our inherent worldly, and other-worldly, tensions.”
You can catch Josh S. Rose’s work on the SVLA1 screen through 03/03 as well as on his Instagram here.
