This month, StandardVision has partnered with 40 North Dance Film Festival to present three award winning dance films from around the world. The program will be on view from Dec 8 through Jan 8, Thursday - Sunday from 9pm-Midnight. StandardVision’s goal is to encourage audiences to participate with art in a new outdoor exhibition experience, and present curated contemporary art programming to the public.A premiere for the showcase will take place on Thursday, December 8 from 9PM - Midnight on the patio of the Yard House (800 West Olympic Boulevard, Los Angeles CA 90015), located across the street from the Courtyard Marriott screen.ABOUT THE FILMSOtis Walks In The Woods, directed by Derrick Belcham and Emily Terndrup, depicts the dynamic relationship of power, possession and otherness within a transparent environment. Set within the historic Philip Johnson Glass House, the dancers permeate both the interior and exterior spaces fluidly, oscillating between the frustrating realities of the banality of their present and the idealizations of the outside world. The architecture of the grounds becomes the anchoring metaphor for the pair's dual states of rigidity and flow. Within the seemingly fixed and defined walls of the main structure, the dancers reflect their states of mind through elegantly choreographed movement.This Is Not Magritte, directed by Ivan Skorik, is a story for two. Told through the great paintings of René Magritte. In movement. The film was awarded Best student film at Bestias Danzantes (Santiago, Chile) and has been selected in various international festivals around the world. Moving Southwark, directed by Jevan Chowdury, is a magical realist take on one of 33 London Boroughs and oldest parts of London. Part of the wider Moving Cities remit to investigate culture and people via expressions of dance, we take you deeper into London, probing further into what makes up the people in a city. The narrator, Nadine Marshall and composer, Danny Odom form a score underwritten by 24 dancers.  Each dancer was asked to respond directly what’s on their mind in that given time, in that given moment. The 2016 Official Selections demonstrate a vast array of films with impressive production value, a collaborative spirit and a social consciousness which considers the times we live in.40 NORTH Dance Film Festival, based in San Diego, CA, is directed and curated by a team of contemporary dance artists: Blythe Barton, Rebecca Correia, Sam Zauscher and Chelsea Zeffiro.ABOUT THE FILMMAKERSDerrick Belcham is a Canadian filmmaker based out of Brooklyn, NY whose internationally-recognized work in documentary and music video has lead him to work with such artists as Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Laurie Anderson, Paul Simon and hundreds of others in music, dance, theater and architecture. He has created works and lectured at such institutions as MoMA PS1, MoCA, The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, The Whitney Museum Of American Art, Musee D’Art Contemporain, The Philip Johnson Glass House, Brooklyn Academy of Music and The Contemporary Arts Center of Cincinnati. His work regularly appears in publications such as The New York Times, Vogue, Pitchfork, NPR and Rolling Stone as well as being screened at short, dance and experimental festivals and retrospectives around the world.Emily Terndrup is a performer and choreographer working in dance, theater, and film. Her dance career has included regional and international tours as a member of Gallim Dance Company, as well as the creation and performance of new works with Andrea Miller/Gallim Dance, Shannon Gillen + Guests, and Gregory Dolbashian. In addition, she has performed for three years in the acclaimed immersive theater production Sleep No More. Emily’s choreography has been presented at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, The Packing House (CO), and most recently at The Knockdown Center (NY).Ivan Skorik (born 1984) is a student of Directing Faculty of Moscow Film School (Dean — Alexei Popogrebsky). Graduating Fall 2016 he already has directed several acknowledged short works. Booktrailer ‘’Dream'’ has won The National Festival of Booktrailers, a one-shot story won Stars Up! Frame DoP’s contest (participated as a director) and also his teaser for TV-series ‘’Obsessed'' was selected by AVK Production and TV3 channel as style-guiding for shooting series next year. Jevan Chowdhury is the founding member of Wind & Foster, a design driven creative studio. He is part of the board of trustees for Visiting Arts UK and Creative Director for the Institution of Civil Engineers 2015 ad campaign. Jevan is also Director of the Moving Cities project, an initiative presenting world cultures headfirst in a thoroughly dynamic, widely engaging, surprising and occasionally even playful style. His work in London, Paris, Prague and Athens has earned significant accolades with nominations in Sweden, Spain, the US and the UK. Jevan's work is currently featured in broadcast, online and media publications including LensCulture, Yatzer, Globalshapers and Cinedans.
