Cold Storage, directed by Thomas Freundlichis our second film to be featured as part of our SV Showcase this month. This is one of the three films to be awarded the StandardVision Showcase Award for Artistic Achievement at the Los Angeles Dance Film Festival.

Cold Storage is a short dance film that pays homage to the virtuoso physical performances and melancholy comedy of the classic silent screen. On a desolate arctic shore, a lonely ice fisherman discovers his prehistoric counterpart frozen in the sea ice, and thaws him out as his newfound soul brother. A wild all-night drinking and dancing party in the fisherman’s tent ensues, but in the harsh light of the morning he must once again confront his own loneliness and dependency.

Los Angeles Dance Film Festival co-founders Alexa Roman and Betsy Uhler discuss the film,

"When our submissions team watched Thomas Freundlich's film, Cold Storage, it received unanimous praise and enthusiastic support. The film is inspired by silent cinema and employs the visual, comedic timing of Chaplin and Buster Keaton. The pace of the film mirrors the movement quality and it builds into an intentional absurdity. It's a fresh take on classic film techniques with a delightful story, color and style. Freundlich was previously an Artistic Director for Loikka dance film festival in Finland and received production support for this film from Loikka as well as from the Finnish Film Foundation."
Thomas Freundlich is one of the leading practitioners in Finland’s vibrantly growing independent dance film scene. Mr. Freundlich’s work ranges from dance shorts, documentary work, performance videography and 3D projects to music videos and projection design for the stage. His work has been seen at dozens of film festivals worldwide as well as broadcast TV both in Finland and internationally.
Cold Storage plays on the SVLA1 screen in downtown Los Angeles, at 901 W Olympic Blvd. every Thursday – Sunday from 9pm-Midnight through May 14.
