On September 5, 2016, Standard Vision premiered excerpts from the collaborative art piece by Alexa Meade, Jon Boogz, and Lil Buck, titled Color of Reality on their SVLA1 screen on the Marriott Courtyard Hotel in Downtown, Los Angeles.
The short film, co-produced by Animi and StandardVision and written/directed/choreographed by Jon Boogz, combines American installation artist Alexa Meade‘s perspective-bending 2D/3D painting with the movement artistry of Jon Boogz & Lil Buck to speak to contemporary social issues.
The piece subsequently went viral within a few days and has since been featured on My Modern Met, Huffington Post, The Fader, Nowness, and DanceOn, among other major online publications. With the help of these outlets, the piece has collectively reached over 5 million views online.
Color of Reality will play hourly all month as part of StandardVision's latest art initiative, SV Presents: a program showcasing the work of up-and-coming and established directors, artists, and creators whose visions represent a fresh perspective within the art and filmmaking worlds.
During our premiere last week, the creators of the piece and their families came out to see it on the Marriott screen in person. Jon Boogz and Lil Buck created an impromptu dance in honor of the piece on the corner of Olympic and Francisco as crowds gathered to watch.
