StandardVision Completes Colossal Lighting Installation at the Iconic Bahrain International Circuit
StandardVision recently completed a colossal installation at the iconic Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir. Taking Formula 1 into the future, the landmark building has become a beacon for the global motor sport. StandardVision enveloped the world famous 10-story clubhouse tower with 360 degrees of over 8,000,000 custom LEDs. This new form of responsive architecture is designed to excite the senses while supplying near instantaneous race content and statistics to viewers at every angle, making it the most modern of its kind in the world.
A Bespoke Lighting Solution for a 360-Degree Media Facade
Working closely with Woodroffe Bassett Design, StandardVision partnered with Spectrum Lighting in Dubai to provide a one-of-a-kind turn-key solution. With the challenge of creating a seamless, 360-degree, architecturally integrated media facade spanning seven unique floors, StandardVision designed and fabricated seven custom direct-view LED panels, with every panel type's length tailored to each floor's geometry. The modules’ razor thin vertical dimension also allows for a gradual decrease in display height, accentuating the existing structure of the tower while maintaining perfect sight-lines for audiences on the upper floors of the track.
The Speed of Light
Below each ring, video-controlled linear grazers of custom lengths were mounted on existing aluminum sunshade fins, creating a bespoke extension of the LED panels above with reflected illumination. A centralized DC power system provided much needed efficiency, performance and integration for the LED rings. Architectural show lighting was added to the rooftop canopies and a number of key areas.
Race Content and Future-Forward Branding
To control the building's 2.5 linear miles of direct-view media-lighting technology, StandardVision deployed its custom content management system platform SVRunner capable of dynamic scheduling and integration with live-event show control. The resulting installation is a vivid celebration of the global motor sport, leveraging experiential design and future-forward branding to amplify public space and activate the iconic entertainment venue.
