StandardVision Artist Showcase: Algorithmic Abstractions from Generative Artist Emily Xie
StandardVision has curated a site-specific artist showcase of selected works from generative artist Emily Xie’s “Memories of Qilin” series, on view across a number of StandardVision’s large-scale exterior displays throughout Los Angeles through August 31st.
An Asian-American generative artist & engineer living in NYC, Emily Xie works primarily with algorithms to explore the interplay between the organic and the systematic, as well the space between the abstract and the representational. Xie is an open-source contributor to p5.js, having programmed the library's front-page animation. Xie leverages her creative coding knowledge to teach students across the country how to use the framework and make art from code. Her generative work is collected and exhibited internationally, most recently being shown with Bright Moments Gallery in London and Art Blocks Curated, Season 6.
Emily Xie received her formal training at Harvard University where she earned a Bachelor's in History of Art and Architecture, and a Master's in Computational Science and Engineering. In 2016, she was an Artist-in-Residence at Pioneer Works, where she programmed interactive generative art installations.
