For those who love both film and dance, the LA Dance and Film Festival is the annual event to keep your eyes on. This year, 16 short films highlighting the beauty of contemporary dance from across the globe were featured.

Each of the featured films is different than the last, with dance being the element that binds them together. Dancer and dance company director Betsy Uhler Colombo started the LA Dance Film Festival with choreographer Alexa Roman. Colombo’s goal is to unite LA’s dance and film communities, and wants to see more dance featured on the big screen. Because of the assortment of films featured, ranging from storytelling, stop motion, and documentary, she believes that the program will interest a variety of audiences.

“Dancer or not, I think anyone would enjoy sitting through our program,” said Colombo. “There’s something about watching a dancer in performance. You know how hard they worked to get where they are and it is amazing to watch anyone who is a master of their craft.”

The two have high hopes that the festival will continue to expand and inspire audiences to take a chance on dance-dedicated film.
