Known for her intentional use of intricate lighting and bold color choices, Maggie West’s work encompasses the act of capturing genuine expressions in artificial environments. For her ongoing Flora series, West photographs various types of plant life with vibrantly colored lighting, thereby altering their natural appearance. All coloration is done in camera with lighting, rather than in photoshop. Striving to create work that is visually compelling and gives the viewer a new perspective on the subject matter, West hopes to captivate those who view her work and inspire them to seek out other contemporary artforms.

Maggie West is a Los Angeles based artist, specializing in vibrant photography and installations.  Her innovative projects have been featured in magazines such as Paper, Forbes, Playboy, Complex, Dazed, Out, Cosmpolitan, Newsweek and many other notable publications. West has created large scale public art installations for non-profits in popular Los Angeles locations such as Pershing Square and Sunset Blvd.  She believes in the importance of public art and is motivated to make her work available outside of traditional gallery spaces.

Catch Maggie West’s Flora series on view at 3rd Street Crossing starting July 1st through July 31st, and learn more about her work by visiting her website.
