Artist Spotlight: Alex Lysakowski’s Surreal Take on the Structural Landscape

StandardVision’s latest artist spotlight features photographs from Ontario-based photographer Alex Lysakowski’s series “Antistructure.” The series offers a surreal take on the structural landscape, resulting in uncannily exaggerated forms from our everyday world.
For the series, Lysakowski traveled to numerous locations in southern Ontario to capture snapshots of inanimate subjects. He subsequently digitally manipulated the images to resemble absurd and surreal-looking architectural forms and vehicles.
About the series, Lysakowski shares that “the farcical nature of the manipulated structures creates a surreal world of absurdity in an otherwise mundane landscape, eluding to an environment beyond the realm of any real architectural forms but still preserving the potential for their existence to comment [on] and contrast modern civilization’s blind eye to over consumption and mass consumerism.”
Alex Lysakowski’s personal work explores the transitional spaces between reality and fiction through photo manipulation, creating a world of the uncanny and absurd.
