An Immersive Digitally-Driven Canopy for Cambridge Commuters
StandardVision collaborated with SOSO Limited, NADAAA, Perkins + Will, NorthEast Electrical, and Turner Construction to design and implement an experiential lighting canopy installation at MBTA’s Kendall/MIT Stop in Cambridge, MA. This project, linking MIT's Admissions Office with Kendall Square, symbolizes a key partnership with MBTA, serving as a prominent entrance to MIT.
A Sculptural Public Landmark, Powered by LED Technology
StandardVision provided the design coordination to integrate numerous linear accent fixtures on the underside of the canopy which illuminate the entrance of the station. In addition to the station’s dynamic accent lighting, StandardVision designed, developed, and fabricated a custom bracket solution which allows for seamless integration within the canopy’s structure. This installation not only illuminates the pathway to MIT but also supports community engagement and cultural events, reflecting MIT's commitment to merging industrial and academic initiatives within Cambridge’s evolving urban scene.
